Professional Positions Available

Music Columnists -   Independent Songwriter Web-Magazine is currently searching for music columnists to write for our online publication. THIS IS A POSITION TO GAIN EXPERIENCE ONLY - THERE IS NO PAY INVOLVED. However, writers will have opportunities throughout the year to receive complimentary entry to several music industry events and parties. Writers may put in requests for certain events, but ISWM can only guarantee complimentary entrance to those events and parties we arrange personally.

Qualified candidates need not have previous writing experience, but they should possess a strong command of the English language as well as the basic knowledge of sentence structure and proper grammar. Writing style should be professional but please abstain from using words that require frequent referral to a dictionary.

Column topics can include anything that would be of interest to the independent songwriter (i.e, MP3 technology, booking agents, indie labels, best places to gig, interviews with indie songwriters, independent music history, advice column, etc). All columns (with the exception of advice columns, cd reviews, and concert reviews), must be written in an objective, professional tone. If you do not understand what this means, please do not submit any material for consideration.

Although we do proofread all articles before adding HTML code, all writers are required to do spell-checks on their own work. If you use quotes or research from other sources, you are required to include a Works Cited with your submission. In-text citations are also required for any works quoted, paraphrased, or mentioned within any submitted article. If you do not understand the procedure of "works cited", or "in-text citations," please do not submit any material to us for consideration at this time.

After six months of professional, timely writing - you qualify to receive a letter of recommendation from ISWM. If you consistently go above and beyond the assignment, showing exceptional writing prowess and technique, as well as intuitive news gathering that goes past the required average research, you will receive our highest letter of recommendation, the ISWM Letter of Employee Recommendation and Distinction.
